What Will People Say?
What will people say? It's a question that has haunted many of us, especially when making life-altering decisions. Join me as I recount my personal journey of navigating societal expectations and personal values during significant changes, like the end of a relationship. Growing up without the burden of self-sacrifice ingrained in Indian culture, particularly for women, I prioritized my own healing despite community values and beliefs. Discover my struggles and triumphs in resisting traditional norms that expect women to always put others first, and learn why staying true to our core values is crucial for our mental health and spiritual well-being.
I emphasize the vital role of support systems—whether from family or friends—in empowering us to uphold our values amidst societal pressures. With heartfelt anecdotes, including the emotional complexities of traditional Indian wedding customs, I discuss the necessity of seeking refuge in supportive relationships to withstand the energy-draining resistance to negative comments and expectations. My parents' unwavering support and unconditional love have empowered me to challenge cultural traditions and pursue my passions fearlessly. This episode is a testament to the right to live authentically and the power of surrounding yourself with people who respect and support your choices.
